#1: Be Comfortable With Discomfort

We all know life can be uncomfortable from time to time but the best things in life are often difficult. Learning is hard, creating something great is hard, marriage can be hard, but these are all wonderful things.

Sometimes you just don't have enough money to do what you want to do, or maybe what you're pursuing requires you to live with some pain.

For example, you get a great job offer in a foreign country. Maybe you don't even know the language! To get this opportunity you will have to give up the comforts of your life - including your home, your family and friends.

It will be difficult at first, but you will adjust with time. You see, if you get used to a little pain, you can do anything.

So, how do you get good at it?

Well, you have to step out of your comfort zone and do things that are uncomfortable and challenging for the goal. But you need to start with small steps.

If you want to get fit, join a gym and start with light weights. Even if it's hard, stick with it and over time, you'll see results.

#2: Ask Yourself Questions

Do something relaxing… go for a relaxing walk or park. Then ask yourself the big questions. Learn about yourself.

Write down things that interest you…things that you could see yourself doing if time and money were no object. Really imagine yourself doing these things.

#3: Think About Where You 'll Be In 5 Years

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

This is a difficult question to answer, but all you have to do is try to answer this question. And while you won't be able to give a concrete answer, it's important because it will give you an idea of what you want to do.

More often than not, where you see yourself is not where you will end up but at least you will have developed new skills and strategies. Plus, choosing a lifestyle rather than a job title can help you focus on what you're truly passionate about.

Changing mental habits is a real challenge because you are not always aware of what is going on in your mind. You need to know how your mind works and you will become much better at managing it all.

One of the best ways to do this is to meditate and keep a journal. With meditation, you can relax and focus your thoughts and by writing regularly in a journal, you reflect on what you are doing in life and what you have learned.

#5: Explore To Find Your Passion

Passion is the result of an action, not its cause. Figuring out what you are passionate about is a process of trial and error and none of us know how we feel about an activity until we try it.

Suppose you are compelled to try something new, anything.

What will it be?

Would you sign up for a piano class?

Would you sign up for a computer course?

Maybe you hate computers now, but then you sign up for a course and during that course, you discover an interest in web design. And so passion is born.

So, make a short list of things that might interest you, and then go out and try them!

This may sound silly, but most successful people and companies write a personal manifesto. If you can figure out where you stand on certain ideas, you can figure out a lifestyle path.

It gives you a call to action to explain how you want things done. The Art of Manliness has a few tips to get you started.

They recommend choosing a few topics to focus on, and making them as specific as possible. Ideas like 'the hours you want to work' or 'how you want to travel'.

If you've never written or thought about your morals or beliefs, now is a good time to do so. Be sure to use strong, positive words. 'I want' or

#7: Volunteer Or Shadow Someone

Just dreaming about something won't get you far, so it's important to actually go out and get your hands dirty.

Sometimes we think we want to do something, but then after trying it, we realize it's not something we like or want to pursue further.

Or maybe it's more complicated than we thought before we tried.

Before you abandon your current life to pursue a dream, make sure you do a lot of reading and research from people who have first-hand experience.

This will help you as it gives good insight to others out there.

Most of us don't sit around thinking about death, but there are some benefits to thinking about your death. It can help us focus on what is really important in our lives and what is not.

And when you don't know what your values are, you're basically adopting other people's values and living by other people's preferences instead of your own!

So think long and hard… what would you like your legacy to be?

How do you want people to talk about you when you're gone?

What will your death say?

What would you like to call it?

#9: Overcome Distractions and Procrastination

Without controlling distractions and procrastination, you won't be able to move forward.

Even if you've started to pursue something and you're good at dealing with uncertainty and pain, you won't get very far if you're too busy watching social media or watching TV.

Just remember: distraction and procrastination are ways to avoid suffering. But if you suffer, you'll be ahead of most people.

#10: Answer The Door

If you never answer a knock on an opportunity, you're missing out. You need to take opportunities when they are presented to you.

It doesn't always seem like the right time, but that doesn't matter. Opportunities just happen randomly and if you don't respond when they knock, you might miss out on a great opportunity or a life-changing opportunity.

So the next time you hear that knock, just answer! The important thing to remember when trying to figure out what to do in life is to make decisions and try things out.

Even if they don't turn out the way you expected, at the end of your life, you won't regret trying things and failing, but you will regret not trying.
